All ultra-sound carcase data submitted for evaluation by LAMBPLAN or MERINOSELECT must be taken by an accredited scanner. Accredited scanners are independent operators contracted by breeders to measure C site fat and eye muscle depth. Sheep Genetics requires the use of an accredited scanner to ensure that data meets the QA guidelines.
An accredited scanner: is someone who has met the scanning accuracy criteria to be accredited by Sheep Genetics. It is achieved by submitting several sets of scanning data to demonstrate repeatability.
Provisional accreditation (p): can be achieved by submitting several sets of scanning data to demonstrate repeatability. Carcase data collected by provisionally accredited scanners may be submitted to Sheep Genetics for routine evaluation. Provisionally accredited scanners must attend to the next available Sheep Genetics scanning accreditation workshop to obtain full accreditation.
All provisionally and fully accredited scanners are required to attend periodic Sheep Genetics scanning accreditation workshops to update their accreditation.
