2023 Leading Breeder Conference

Leading Breeder is a biannual conference hosted by Sheep Genetics to update clients on the genetic evaluations and showcase the innovations in development to achieve genetic improvement.

When: Wednesday 15th March 2023, 12.00pm to Thursday 16th March 2023, 1.00pm

Where: Bendigo VIC (vicinity of the showground)

Cost: $125 for conference including dinner, or $55 for dinner only (held at the conference location)

There will be further opportunity for attendees to participate in business and skills development activities on Thursday afternoon. These activities will conclude at approximately 4pm. More information on the afternoon activities will be available soon.

This year the conference theme is “The Role of Genetics in Sustainability and Productivity”. There are a number of exciting sessions planned for the conference including:

A Panorama view of Genetics and Updates for your business

  • Including presentations about Sheep Genetics Updates, powering our genetic engines of the future, showcasing the latest in index development, as well as success in breeding for sustainability outcomes overtime.

From genomics to plate. Engaging with breeders through to consumers

  • This session will cover underpinning genomic selection with reference populations, the outcomes of the ALMtech project and Aussie Lamb on the global menu featuring live demonstrations of new technologies.

Designing breeding programs

  • Featuring Matesel in practise, its success and learning from other industries globally. Additionally, this session will allow the chance for your questions to be answered by a panel of industry experts and leaders.

Achieving Sustainability Outcomes- what role does genetics play?

  • The chance to learn and discuss MLA’s Carbon Neutral targets, the role genetics plays and how you can be involved, as well as learnings from the beef industry.
