DNA Parentage

DNA Parentage

We have found an increasing number of breeders that are syndicate joining, then using DNA to assign parentage after the lambs are born. In these cases, we are finding multiple lambs from the same dam, which have different sires allocated to them. These lambs may then have their pedigree excluded from the analysis.

Where you have confirmed Pedigree through a genomic or DNA parentage test, you can avoid the exclusion by including the “pedigree type” information within your software, and allocating “DNA” against the lamb. This will tell the analysis that you are confident in the different sires for the half siblings as it was confirmed by DNA results.

If you have already submitted your lambs, and noticed these exclusions, you can update the  “pedigree type” information and resubmit that year drop for inclusion in the next analysis.
