LAMBPLAN is Australia’s genetic evaluation system for terminal and dual-purpose sheep producers. The user-friendly tool enables breeders to evaluate a ram’s genetic potential across a range of traits, and benchmark the genetic make-up of their flock.
What are the benefits of using LAMBPLAN?
The interactive database is flexible and helps breeders to:
- reduce the risk associated with selecting rams
- improve the rate of genetic gain in their flocks
- improve overall productivity.
ASBVs are directly comparable across flocks within a breed, and across both flocks and breeds in the terminal sire group of breeds. This enables ram breeders to benchmark their animals’ performance.
Commercial buyers can also use LAMBPLAN ASBVs to objectively compare rams, and identify those that best suit their production system and target markets.
How does LAMBPLAN work?
Users can search the database for specific traits or sheep (sires, dams, and male and female progeny) and their ASBVs.
Results are calculated from an analysis of pedigree and performance information.
