Ram Sale Season Checklist
Are You Ram Sale Season Ready?
We are heading into ram sale season again, so now is the time to ensure your breeding values are accurate and up to date. Make sure you:
- Submit data at least 2 analysis runs before your sale - This allows sufficient time for any data issues or errors to be identified and corrected before sale day.
- Allow time for results to be published - Results can take up to 10 business days after the analysis run date to be published online.
- Upload data early - Ideally upload data into the submissions portal at least 24 hours before run cut-off. This allows you time to work through any exclusions, warnings and pay for billable animals that may flag.
- Update Genomic and pedigree information - Ensure all relevant DNA, sire verification and pedigree records have been submitted and processed.
-
Sale catalogues – Create a sale catalogue in Sheep Genetics to showcase animals and their current breeding values, indexes and trait information. The catalogue can be shared via your website, social media channels and other marketing materials to promote your sale animals. Before publishing, review animal IDs, pedigree information, performance data and trait descriptions to ensure accuracy and consistency. Step by step refresher guides are available on the Sheep Genetics website for creating sales catalogues.
- Pen cards – Review animal IDs, pedigree information, performance data, breeding values, indexes and trait descriptions to ensure all information is correct and current before printing.Step by step refresher guides are available on the Sheep Genetics website for creating pen cards.
- LAMBPLAN & MERINOSELECT logos are available to use by emailing Sheep Genetics at info@sheepgenetics.org.au
-
Percentile highlighting - Percentile bands are used to easily and quickly benchmark where an individual animal is sitting for a trait within industry and highlight top performers within the analysis. ASBVs that fall in the 5th, 10th and 20th percentile of the analysis are highlighted in purple, blue and green respectively. More information available here.
- Promote your most recent results - Ensuring your latest analysis is available helps present the most accurate picture of your genetics to buyers. Using outdated breeding values may result in discrepancies between printed materials and online results.
